ABOUT PROJECT

This competitive project was created not in an architects’ office but in the territory being projected. Projecting carried out in a rented boathouse of the yacht club was very different from usual everyday work: “We used to buy a ticket and take a ferry to the other coast every day. After arrival we used to walk along the quay of Curonian Bay about fifteen minutes to the premises we rented. When we came to the Klaipeda Yacht Club, we used to open the first door of the boathouse and get into a ten meter high room where a large white cutter stood…” Thus, constant presence in the territory being projected provided ideal conditions to physically feel and understand the surroundings. The heritage accumulated in the Curonian Spit and city intervention allowed us to discover a new scenario of the complex being… our new parts of the complex (A, B, C, D) are like things which are cast ashore by strong waves of the sea. In the beginning, the object “B” cast ashore by the first wave was not in its actual place yet. The second wave flung the object “C” into the object “B”. The blow pushed the object “B” further ashore and in this way the object occupied its actual place. After that blow the object “B” opened up and small things were strewn out of it into the water. The third wave cast ashore the object “A”. In the process flow of time all future objects are affected by the water, polished by the wind, warmed by the light. Coastal objects partly acquire new forms. These are the forms of marine environment…
